The Dunning Hotel is really situated in the middle of Dunning village, from which all local sights can very conveniently be walked to. The most important of these historical sites, St Serf's Church, can be reached within a five-minute walk. One must not miss this church of the 12th century with its Norman tower that accommodates the famous Dupplin Cross, an extraordinary 9th-century Pictish carved stone, and one of the major early medieval works of art in Scotland.

The village itself is pretty, one which can be explored on leisure walks along its historic streets, along the Dunning Burn, or through its parkland. The village boasts another fine pub, The Kirkstyle Inn, an alternative for refreshment and dining to a small café and a village shop for provisions.

The Dunning Golf Club is also located within walking distance of the hotel. It’s a pretty 9-hole course, with beautiful views, and its tea-room is often where hotel guests are served their free breakfast. The place is also an entry point to various local trekking paths, one of them being a moderate climb up “Dunning Den” to beautiful scenes of the countryside.
